Editor's Field Report

Tested on Mt. Tamalpais ridge loop, May 2025
We took this through ten weekend hikes on the Mt. Tam ridge loops — eight to fourteen miles each, mixed shale and grass. What earned this harness shelf space: the Y-front chest plate stays centered when our test dog Boomer surged after deer at mile six, and the side handles let us hoist him over a creek log without straining his ribs. The 1.5" webbing didn't fray after a season of brush; reflective tape held visibility in fog. We loaded the saddle pockets with a treat pouch and a collapsible bowl on the longer runs; the load balanced clean. Three other harnesses in the same test pack chafed at the armpits after hour four — this one didn't. Sizing runs slightly narrow in the chest, so size up if your dog is between two.
