Trail Test Lab
The Day Hike Kit
Hands free on a 4–8 hour trail day

Why we built this kit
We built the Day Hike Kit after too many trailhead mornings spent repacking pockets — leash in one hand, bottle in the other, treats buried in a jacket. Our field editors wanted one crossbody that stays put on switchbacks, a bottle that pours one-handed on narrow trail, a treat rhythm that does not stop the walk, and bowls that pack flat at the turnaround. Each piece already cleared our Trail Score bar on its own; together they cover the four friction points we hit on every four-to-eight hour loop. We tested the full bundle on Eagle Creek and Forest Park loops over three weekends: nothing duplicated a job another piece already did, and nothing stayed in the car "just in case." This is the default loadout we recommend before anyone asks about harness upgrades — because the day falls apart when carry and hydration are an afterthought, not when you are missing one more gadget.
