Editor's Field Report

Tested on Pacific Crest Trail, Section J, October 2025

We took this on a six-day stretch of the Pacific Crest Trail in October. After 60 miles of sandstone scramble and creek crossings, what stood out: the chest plate stays put even when our test dog Boomer hit deep water unexpectedly. The padding does not mat up after a wet day in the tent. On mile five of a loaded day hike, the saddle bags did not sway into ribs, and the Y-front kept pressure off the throat when he surged toward water. We loaded each side with snacks, a collapsible bowl, and a light first-aid wrap; both medium dogs still wanted to lead on the return leg. This is the harness we reference when readers ask for pack-day carry before our Coming Soon launch goes live.

What we love

  • Chest plate stays in place on hard climbs
  • Padding dries fast after wet trail days
  • Handle on top makes lifting onto truck-bed manageable

What to know

  • Sizing runs narrow — size up if between
  • Top handle not for lifting dogs over 50 lbs
  • Pack pockets are not waterproof — line with dry bag for water crossings

“Pack weight balanced — dog still wanted to lead on mile five.”
