The Cold Weather Kit

Why we built this kit

Cold-weather walks fail in predictable ways: wet coats without wind protection, cracked pads from salt, and a soggy dog on your couch because nobody packed a proper dry-down. We assembled this kit as a layering system — rain shell for steady drizzle, snood for wind at the ears, balm before salted sidewalks, and a towel that lives by the door after every return. Each piece was scored on separate winter weeks in Portland and Seattle; the kit is what our editors grab when the forecast drops below 40°F and the walk still has to happen. Winter gear only works if it is all within arm's reach when you leave — not scattered across three orders.
